Ferdinand Poulain, Count of Mauny, nobleman of Brittany and counsel of the King of France lands in Martinique.
He marries the daughter of a plantation owner located at Rivière Pilote in the south of the island to which he gives his name: the La Mauny Domain.

In 1820 the La Mauny distillery develops the production of Agricole rum elaborated with pure sugarcane juice extracted from canes grown on the land.

The Tasher de la Pagerie family, whose daughter Marie Joseph Rose, also known as Josephine de Beauharnais, wife of Napoleon and Empress of France, wants to acquire the property.
After quite some talk, no agreement is found with the Count of Mauny’s heirs.
